Not too concerned about early admission, but general admission.

Is there a range?

To my understanding it is November-January.

MOST RD deadlines are Dec 31. However, you should check the website of each college to confirm the date. So, you can apply anytime between when their application is available and the deadline.

If you're applying to any schools with rolling admissions, apply ASAP.

Schools with rolling admissions, where they make decisions as apps are received: you should apply as early as possible, many already have their apps out there.

Schools that have regular admission with an app deadline end of Dec/early Jan, and make all decisions after Feb: you must apply by deadline, you should apply well before your high school's Christmas break -- what one often discovers when doing the app is that there is something you need sent by your high school by the due date and your high school won't be open or have anybody to do it if you wait to make that discovery on Dec 30.

Colleges with priority date: this is somewhat like early action as priority date applicants will be notified earlier than later applicants except with a slight difference -- colleges with a priority date, often in Nov, actually do state that they favor for admission those who get apps in by the priority date. For these, get your app done early and by no later than priority date.

If applying early action or early decision at any college, you should get it done in October to meet any Nov deadline.

If you are seeking to qualify for any merit scholarships, you should check carefully the rules of the college. Some of those that have those late Dec/early Jan app deadlines and give merit aid, state somewhere in small print that if you want to qualify for merit aid you need to get your app in earlier and possibly as early as October 1.

if you are applying to colleges that need recommendation letters, go now to the teachers you want letters from and ask them to do them; why: because they like to have time to do those and they may (and should) say no if you come to them the day before Christmas break starts.

NACAC discourages applying earlier than the first week of October, but that is a great time to submit an application to a college with a "rolling" admission cycle.
