When merit aid goes away...

mominva,
Great that the kid was successful in appealing, twice, but OH so stressful! So sorry that kid had to do that to get merit funding reinstated. That must have taken tons of energy & created untold anxiety for the kid & family! Yikes, not what you’d want for any student!

HImom,
Well, another Dean’s list semester this past Fall, so the scholarship is intact for senior year!

Yippee, but what a rollercoaster! Glad the kid has the end in sight! I can’t believe having so much at stake in grades every marking period can be good for learning and for the mental health of the students. There is already enough stress, but the constant worry of possibly losing funding must be just such a burden, especially after two appeals!

Update:
Kid I mentioned with scholarship endangered ended up with a 2.95+ at the end of the year.
I understood that kid would lose 15% of scholarship if GPA was between 2.85 and 3.0.
Just got the financial papers for next semester. Full scholarship is there–apparently they rounded up! Whew!!

Wow! Hope the kid is able to buckle down & bring the grades up so s/he has a bit more breathing room/cushion. It’s tough enough without worrying about the huge financial aspects of losing merit aid!

Pleased that our kiddo was doing a lot of review his 1st 3-4 semseters of college. He COULD have worked harder to try to get exempted, but opted to just re-take courses he had covered in HS. He cruised along and was ultimately able to get his EE with honors because he had the cushion with his semesters of reviewing what was covered in his HS AP courses.

D has had to work harder, since she didn’t have AP courses & is taking courses in many different fields. She has no merit aid to lose. :(
