When should I take Calc III, Linear Algebra, and Diff Eq?

Within two semesters, I have to take the three listed-above courses. Which two complement each other the best? From what I've heard it would be best to do either Calc III first, then Lin Al and Diff Eq together second, OR do Calc III and Lin Al together first then do Diff Eq second.

Any thoughts of which is better? Is it just not a good idea to do Calc III and Diff Eq together? I'm at UMD if that is helpful.

Thanks!

I would recommend taking Calc III and Linear together. They compliment each other nicely. One of those is most likely a prereq to Diff Eq, although it varies by school.

I thought Lin Alg and Diff Eq went together well (especially when you get into eigenvalues and such). I took diff eq and then lin alg the next semester, which is apparently the opposite order from what most people at my school do. lin alg was a breeze, and it seemed like there was some overlap.

I don’t personally think it matters much. I would ask an advisor or other students about the difficulty of those courses at your specific school. My school has multivariable calculus as a pre-req for linear algebra which I think is your calc 3. I believe only 15% of my linear algebra and diff EQ class was overlap (eigenvalues).

I took linear algebra and differential equations together, then multivariable calculus the semester after that. I don’t think it matters very much unless your school has one of these classes as a prerequisite for some other one.
