We haven’t heard from Hartt yet - Do we know if acceptances are still being mailed?
Thank you
The Hartt website says notifications will be mailed out the first week of April. If you look at past years’ threads, it seems like they trickle out from mid-March through mid-April.
They are notoriously slow about notification. I would think things will be sent out by the end of the week though. My D actually got an email invitation to an accepted student even before she got her acceptance in the mail - she called and they told her over the phone. Her acceptance also came in a small envelope - the large package came later. BAL to all still waiting!
Does anyone know how soon the FA packages are mailed out after the acceptance letter? If there was not a letter about scholarship with the acceptance letter does that mean one was not given? Thanks!
I’m pretty sure D’s acceptance letter came with the scholarship info enclosed. You might want to call and ask.
Had same experience with Hartt - acceptance letter but no mention of scholarship. Was told financial aid, if any, would come later in a separate letter.
My son’s acceptance was an email last night saying that the letter was on it’s way.
My D’s acceptance letter stated the talent scholarship amount. Looking at old Hartt threads here on CC, it seems that that’s ALL they give - no merit scholarships, no need-based aid, just the talent scholarship.
Yes that is correct. Only talent scholarship is given; no academic scholarship. That’s the arrangement University of Hartford made with the Hartt School.
So, while it IS true Hartt does not give merit aid, I found out that they DO give need-based financial aid, so I was incorrect in my previous post (and very happy to have been wrong!)
Yes, Hartt gives a talent award, which is in the acceptance letter if it has been awarded, and need based aid, but no academic merit awards. This was put in place years ago because the Hartt School (all disciplines) typically has a much higher academic achievement level than the rest of U Hartford, and the Hartt kids were drying up the coffers for the other students, so the bifurcated the scholarships and the Hartt ones are solely based on a “talent” award. I use that term in quotes because it doesn’t mean anyone thinks that kids who don’t get talent awards aren’t talented, It is just the terminology they use.
@gingersap97 Do you know what their criteria for giving the talent award is? Does it mean they really want you at their school, or is it simply based on that they think the student was especially talented?
@mrsborle - I really don’t know the criteria, but I do know that in general the big awards go to the boys there is at least one boy in her class who has a full tuition scholarship. My D got a generous award (very generous for a female), which of course I like to think means they really wanted her and/or think she is exceptionally talented, but I just don’t know. Many of the girls do not get anything other than need based aid and many of them are extremely talented too. She did audition as an early action candidate, so that may have meant that she had first crack at the scholarship dollars. She was accepted in December. I think that is pretty much the case at many of the MT programs. Supply and demand.
