When to apply for colleges?

I’m an extremely confused international student, and I am feeling totally lost (so please excuse me if this is a repeated post!)

Due to some personal issues I have had to make a abrupt decision to apply for US Colleges, and I have only just begun my SAT Prep.
I was told I could apply in the Fall or the Spring semester- so I was wondering, when is the deadline (approximately) for the Fall and the Spring intakes? My guess is that I am applying for the 2015-2016 intake.

I would be most grateful if someone could just confirm this as all the websites state slightly different information.

It depends upon to which schools you plan to apply. Many schools do not accept applications for Spring semester. You need to check each schools website for their application deadlines.

As @Gumbymom said, you typically apply during the fall or spring semester (check application deadlines), then enroll the following fall. In your case, you would likely apply this coming fall, then enroll in the Fall of 2016. I don’t know if you can enroll sooner, it likely depends on the university.
