When to send in SAT scores? (And other parts of the app.)

I took the SAT twice in my junior year. I'm going into my senior year this fall and will take the SAT I in October. SAT subject tests will be taken in November -- a few weeks AFTER early action deadlines. I know I can still send them in once they're available, but I'm confused as to how that works. As I wait on my SAT Subject test scores, do I send in SAT I scores with my application? Do I have to do it from the Collegeboard website? With the CommonApp, can I attach my SAT scores and recommendation letter? Or are they all separate? And do my guidance counselors send in my transcript, or do I get a copy of that and send it in myself?

Questions from a rookie! :)

Hello Marthu,

Most colleges want you to send your SAT scores officially through the CollegeBoard site. You can wait for your SAT Subject scores. But if you do have a SAT I scores at hand, I suggest you send it along with your application. And, you have to send it through the collegeboard. CommonApp has a place where you can assign your recommenders but sending SAT scores through CommonApp is not possible. Its a separate thing. Well, you can tell your counselor to fill in your SAT scores in your transcripts and attach it in the CommonApp. He will do it himself and you don’t have to get a copy of that and send it yourself. However, some colleges later ask for an official score and don’t rely on those on your transcripts. So better send it officially. Send SAT score from the Collegeboard early enough so that it gets on the table side by side with your CommonApp. All the best.
