Hi guys, this may seem like a stupid question, but I was wondering when the college application process actually starts? I'm an international student, but I want to go to US universities, so I was wondering if I should start applying in the summer of junior year?

Your best bet would be to the admissions websites of your colleges of interest. There is generally a section for international student admissions.

If you want to be really prepared, it’s best to begin seriously researching schools at the beginning of junior year (11th grade) and make sure you get all your testing for the ACTs and SATs done during your junior year as well. A lot of people even ask their teachers for letters of recommendation at the end of their junior year. By the end of junior year you should have narrowed it down to the schools that are a good fit for you, and then apply over the summer and during the fall of your senior year. When schools open their applications and when they make decisions varies though. Ive already been accepted to 2 colleges, but my top choice won’t even let me access the application until September. Very frustrating so don’t worry if you don’t get started right away during the summer:)

You also will find a lot of useful information in the International Students Forum here. Go to the main page where all of the forums are listed, and scroll down to find it.

Summer after Junior Year: Took last SAT and seriously began researching schools, used junior year internships and classes to narrow down what I wanted to study

About now (right before senior year): filling out common app and writing any available supplements for all my favorite schools

When Senior year starts: ask for rec letters

Intend to be done with my top choice before November 1 and everything else by the end of November

OMG thank you so much you guys for the info!! I live in Canada, so I just assume that I am considered an international student. I heard its way harder for international students to get into the ivies and super low admit rate schools?
