When to Take AP Exams?

Hi I'm new to CollegeBoard and am a rising junior.

I see that a lot of people on here have a million AP scores. However, my school doesn't offer any AP's (except World History) until junior and senior years.

So when are these people with the million AP scores taking the exams?

For example, the most AP's I can take next year are 3. However, there are a lot more that I can take senior year. But if I take the exams at the end of senior year after competition of the corresponding AP courses, will colleges even get to see them?

So should I even bother taking those exams at the end of senior year or should I self-study before then?

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks so much!

AP exams are administered during early-mid May on specific dates. These dates apply to all schools everywhere. You can check each date for each exam on the collegeboard website.

Thanks, cod4pro! However, I didn’t really mean the testing dates.

I mean, would it be better to self-study and take the AP exams at the end of junior year even though some of the exams would be self-studying

Or

just wait until the end of senior year (when colleges won’t even get a chance to see them)?

It really depends on if you have the time during junior or senior year. Many of these guys on the forum want to get those state AP scholar or national AP scholar awards. It can also be very difficult to apply all the credit obtained in 15+ ap tests towards college. I am not self-studying any, because by the end of senior year, I’ll have at least 3/4 to a full year of college credit (30) for college just from my regular scheduled AP classes if I can apply them all towards college. I will also most likely be attending a college that only allows a max of 38 credits to be given, so it would be a waste for me to self-study a bunch.

To also be fair, it doesn’t matter when you self-study if you decide to do so, because colleges don’t even take into consideration AP scores during the admission process.
