@wisteria100 A private university in south with very homogeneous student body? Let’s be honest. Yeah, I think they are looking at ethnic background during the interview. If not, the demographics would certainly look different.
^They don’t need an interview for that. And they don’t interview all candidates. You can be accepted without it.
@divdad123 I have no connection at all to Wake, but visited it twice with my daughter (HS class of 2016). You posed a very interesting question at the outset, but from your other responses on this thread and lack of postings about any other colleges, it sounds like you very much don’t want your son to go to Wake. I think you said your son lost interest as well. So it seems to me a little strange that you keep coming back to this thread to criticize a school that your son doesn’t like and that you don’t want him to go to.
Perhaps it would be helpful for you to look into the programs at the schools your S applied to that you approve of? College Confidential is a treasure if you can find the right links so I encourage you to start to look into the other schools to which he applied.
@GnocchiB I appreciate your guidance. You seem to take some of the posts personally. For someone who has no connection to the school at all, you seemed to paying an a lot of attention to my posts. My son applied here and other competitive schools RD. Although his interest level is low at this point we are keeping all the options open, as we should.
I am posting MY honest opinions so that the future Asian-American prospective students to this school can be informed of the “Asian experience” to this whole college process. I am not implying that my opinions are the right. The process has changed a lot since I applied 30 years ago. This is especially true for the small Asian-American population. There aren’t enough information out there for this group. I tried to respond to the posts as much as possible. We can all agree to disagree but I prefer to openly discuss controversial issues rather than suppressing them.
@divdad123 Good luck to your son! I hope he has an amazing experience wherever he goes and emerges challenged and excited for his next opportunity and finds a place where your whole family feels part of a greater family. Wake was not always an easy place for me (see previous posts), but gave me lots of opportunities and I grew tremendously there, maintain close relationships with staff and professors, and am proud of many of its ongoing efforts. It is not/would not be great for everyone. It’s always good to hear a plethora of experience and as I mentioned on that excellently-written piece by the current student, I am grateful for individuals like the writer who continue to challenge Wake’s weaknesses and contribute to making it a richer, more diverse, more invigorating place to spend one’s college years (besides studying abroad, of course!). Again, good luck to your son and all other readers. As always, #GoDeacs!
@CKDeac Do you work for the Wake Admissions or did you ever work for them? I have a close relationship with many in admissions Dept. at different colleges. I do recognize a few catch phrases,tone and language used in the Adm offices.
Moderator, I think it may be time to lock this thread.
@marrast I totally agree
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
As do I. Closing thread. If the OP is going to ask a question and then simply argue with all the answers, I see no reason to keep open.
