Rocket Review gives a list of 300 something words that Adam Robinson feels are the most important based on a power ranking system he developed. He stresses that you need to know those 300 something words but also says how the more words you know the better. It can't hurt to at least learn some of the words from the Barrons book for the sentence completion portion of the critical reading section. His book is also very good when it comes to handling the reading passages and it really helped me

Good Luck!

buy a barrons CR prep book or the barrons SAT prep book. yes rocket review does have a list. Studying for vocab will be beneficial, but in many situations it might be more helpful to study for the reading part since 48 questions are reading based and only 19 are sentence completion, depending on how much you miss from both categories.

^
There are 48 reading passage questions and 19 SC questions. However, a number of the reading passage questions are vocabulary-based. My recent analysis of the May 08 SAT confirmed these conclusions:
1. There are 22 or so level 3 - 5 vocab based questions. Most are in the SCs but a number are in the reading questions.
2. The level 4 and 5 questions are dominated by tough vocabulary.
3. It is very hard to score above a 580 if you don't have a solid level 4 - 5 vocabulary. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to score above a 680 if you do not know the level 5 words.
4. Barron's list of 3,500 words is not invincible. My analysis (see my threads on CC) revealed that you could learn all the Barron's words and still miss some questions. For example, Barron' did not have euphonious and forerunner on the May SAT or unaffected, overwrought, and unconventional on the March SAT.
5. There is a better much more efficient way to study vocabulary. See my threads for a complete analysis and all the data. The bottom line is that the three best vocab sources are:
. Direct Hits Vocabulary (Direct Hits Publishing - Lulu.com)
. PR's Hit Parade
. RR's Core Words
These three are like overlapping venn diagrams. There are about 600 words. Taken together these three produced almost as many hits as Barrons. They are also much better written and presented. Direct Hits is particularly vivid and even entertaining.
Good luck!
