Where can I get in?

GPA: 2.7 (I had a rough freshman year, family problems, long story)
ACT: 28 (taking it again in October... I was projected to score a 30)

Senior Year Classes:

Advanced Journalistic Writing
Physics 300
AP European History
Golf/Tennis/Team Sports/Cross Training
Volleyball/Basketball/Cross Training/Golf
Spanish II
Foods I
Foods II
Radio I
Consumer Economics

Extracurriculars:

Missions Trip to Cartago, Costa Rica with Sonlife, 2005 (helped restore an orphanage)
Missions Trip to Reynosa, Mexico with World Servants, 2006 (helped build a church)
Volunteer work at City Union Mission (homeless shelter in Kansas City, MO) ~80 hours
Volunteer camp counselor at Pine Trail Camp, Saugatuck, MI (one week this summer, another week next summer)
Volunteer crew leader for my church's vacation Bible school (one week this summer, another week next summer)

For what it's worth, my parents are divorced and I'm considered low income. I'd also be the first in my family to go to college.

I want to get into a good pre-pharmacy program and I've already applied to Purdue, DePaul, and UIC. Do I have a chance at any of these schools? I realize that my GPA is probably way too low, but I'm hoping if I apply early that they may be more lenient.

Any suggestions would be more than helpful. Thanks for reading.

what state do you live in? what race are you?

I live in Illinois, and I'm a whole mix of nationalities (Italian mostly, but some English, Irish, Scottish, German, Spanish, Panamanian) ...but I'd consider myself basically white. My grandma is half Cherokee, if that counts for anything.

Also, for the obligatory class rank question, I go to a large school (3,500+) and don't have the exact number... I'd figure somewhere in the top 50%, but I'm not sure.

Bump. I really need help here.

If you are in the top 50% you'll probably get into Univ of Illinois at Chicago--but I wouldn't count on Purdue or Depaul. (Purdue--reach, Depaul--slight reach).

Your test score is good for these schools, but the GPA is the problem.

Both of these last two schools have rolling admissions, however, so this means you can apply again (like at the end of your senior year) if you get rejected now, but have good senior year grades.

I suggest getting a backup, however. Start looking at a few schools that you know you are likely to get into.

Based upon your need to find a place close to Chicago, I recommend the following three schools:

Loyola University of Chicago
Northern Illinois University
Lake Forest College

Also, if you do well, you can transfer to DePaul or the University of Illinois at Chicago or the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign later on. (This is, of course, presuming you don't get into UIC now).

Good luck.
