My prefered major would be Chemical Engineering/Chemistry.

Okay so I'll just list everything:

GPA:3.86 (Unweighted)
Class Rank: (my school doesn't do class rank)
ACT: Not yet taken (my predicted score after taking ACT PLAN without studying is 27-31 so it'll probably be higher)
EC: JV Soccer (10th grade), Robotics (11th grade and most likely also 12th)
Also I'm a boy scout and will be Eagle Scout by time I apply and I'm working on Kinetics research at Lawrence Tech.

Calculus I - Oakland Community College - Final Grade: A
Calculus II - Oakland Community College - Final Grade: A-
Calculus III - Lawrence Technological University - Final Grade: (Still awaiting final grade, most likely A)
Organic Chemistry I - Lawrence Technological University - Final Grade: (Still awaiting final grade, most likely A)
Engineering Materials - Lawrence Technological University - Final Grade: A
AP Chemistry - AP Score: 5
AP US History - AP Score: 3

Currently taking (at a college/AP):
Physical Chemistry I - Lawrence Technological University
Materials Laboratory - Lawrence Technological University
Differential Equations - Lawrence Technological University
Statics - Lawrence Technological University
Principles of Economics - Lawrence Technological University
AP Physics C

Going to take in future (over summer or next year):
Linear Algebra - Oakland University - OUSMI
Number Theory with Cryptography - Oakland University - OUSMI
Physical Chemisty II - Lawrence Technological University
Organic Chemistry II - Lawrence Technological University
Thermodynamics - Lawrence Technological University
Heat Transfer (maybe) - Lawrence Technological University
Analytical Chemistry - Lawrence Technological University
Advanced Engineering Mathematics - Lawrence Technological University
AP Environmental Science (self-study)
AP Psychology

Look at the threads that are on this board for scholarships. Also Lawrence and Oakland where you have alreadytaken some classes may be a go as well. Basically, you need to find schools where your stats put in the very top group of students. Test scores are a good sign of such things.

Not only that, without knowing what your family finances are, there is no telling whether you are eligible for financial aid on the state, federal and institutional levels. If you are a National Merit Finalist, that could open some doors. But I can tell you that full tuiton is tough to get.

Assuming that you have taken these college courses while still in high school and will be a high school senior applying to colleges as a frosh next year, you may want to check these lists for ACT and SAT targets:

If your family is middle or lower income, try the net price calculators on the web sites of various colleges to get need-based financial aid estimates.

I think you’d likely (depending on ACT) be full ride at Oakland and Lawrence Tech (I’m from the area and work right across the street from LTU, can see it from my window daily). Is there somewhere else you want to go besides those two? Michigan Tech?

Family (Mom’s since I only live with her so only her salary would have a play) is in either 40-50k or 50-60k per year. First choice would actually be MIT although if I get in, I would worry about the money aspect of it. Lawrence Tech doesn’t have a chemical engineering program (I wish it did). Also thanks for the sugguestions.

You should do pretty good from a need based standpoint. What’s your family size (any more siblings)? I recommend running some NPC numbers (start with MIT). If you are the only child (family of two with your mom and you) then you will come in under our projected EFC (has been bobbing and weaving in about the $9k per year range). I think your EFC might be in the 3 to 4k range.

Kettering and Michigan Tech both have chemical engineering programs as well though I think you can get into MIT with those college grades in high school.

I’m an only child. Kettering doesn’t give full tutiton although max scholarship plus money from working through there will cover tutiton. I will look more into Michigan Tech. And I doubt I’ll get into MIT since a 27-31 ACT is low for them (altough hopefully I’ll do better).

What’s the situation with your dad? MIT also wants information on your non-custodial parent. If either of your parents is remarried, they want information on the income and assets of the spouses also.

If your father is alive, then many colleges will consider his income and assets as well when calculating financial aid. I.e. they expect the non-custodial parent to contribute in a divorced-parents situation.

'Bama would give you full tuition for a 32 ACT, so you’re pretty close. Auburn would give you full right now (assuming you get a 30-31), but you wouldn’t want to go there, now would you?

Both of these schools have solid engineering rankings. If you get National Merit, I know Alabama for sure would go head-over-heels for you.

If you are a junior and didn’t take the fall PSAT, you may not qualify for National Merit status since the scores from the fall PSAT’s are taken from that test. MIT is expensive and competitive if your scores aren’t there.

Oh, so that’s in-state! Sorry. No, Bama would give only 2/3 tuition for a 31, at least if you only get the big merit scholarship and not something eng’ specific.

Right. But the student mentions ChemEng’g, so I mentioned that if he gets a 30/31 ACT, then Bama would give him full tuition plus 2500 for being an Eng’g (or CompSci) major.

If the student is non-eng’g then he gets 2/3 tuition for a 30/31.

If the student has a 32+, he gets full tuition for ANY major.

If the student is thinking of double majoring chemE and chem, then he would apply to Bama as an chemE student and then add the second major when he matriculates.

I looked at Bama but didn’t see anything about full tutition, could someone please post link? Also about earlier comments, yes my dad is alive and although some colleges my account for his income, I think it’s not consider in FAFSA. Also any idea if I’d probably be able to get full tutiton at Wayne State?
