<p>These are the steps that I would take now:</p>

<li><p>If S is really serious about this, he should get into the gym every day (or whenever possible) and work on his skills (not just play) between now and the date of the clinic. He wants to be as sharp as he can when the coaches see him.</p></li>
<li><p>Tape his performance at the clinic.</p></li>
<li><p>I assume the clinic is the one in Atlanta. But whereever it is, try to get his coach to locate someone who really knows his stuff and would be willing to look at S and evaluate him at the clinic. (NOT a commercial recruiting service). IMHO, it would be worth a couple of hundred bucks to get a good sense about where S stands, because if he is going to seriously pursue his dream of playing college ball, you're probably going to spend a lot more than that next spring and fall. And who knows--if you find the right school to send the tape to, maybe you can get the coach to come out during the season and get the whole thing wrapped up during the season.</p></li>
