Hello, I am a 16 year old rising senior in high school, and I know that having research experience really helps getting into top notch schools. I would really like to get research experience I just have no idea how to go about getting it, especially since I would need to do it so quickly so that I could do it before applying to colleges this fall. So, my question is where could I find work like this? I live in the suburbs, so there is a big city next to me.

It’s often a matter of having a passion for some topic or subject, finding a researcher who is active in that arena, and reaching out to ask how you can be involved in their research. Here is a good example: https://www.tip.duke.edu/node/724.

Unfortunately, you are coming to the party quite late. The process is not generally a quick one and, if you don’t already have some of the groundwork done, it’s not likely you will be in a position to add outside research experience to your ECs by fall.

It is a little late for this summer given that it is almost July. Usually you need to start much earlier.

There are some research programs for high school students but many have application deadlines in Dec/Jan/Feb.

I know a couple students looked up professors/gradute students in their local universities and emailed them. I think they sent lots of emails starting in Mar/Apr and eventually found something.

You can still try but even if you are able to found something, summer will almost be over by then. If you want to try, look up your local universities, write a cover letter, email it with your resume.
