Are they all from the South?

No you racist.

It’s for people who came in late, skipped the exam, just took it without even real preparation.

The people who have teachers that don’t know the material.

Unfortunate accidents. The blizzard of 2010 did set back a few curriculums.

People who sign up for AP courses “because they were forced to.”

then there are the kids that genuinely tried… but failed…
I feel very bad for them…

Also some teachers just aren’t meant to teach ap curriculum.

the world is so unfair sometimes lol… some people don’t have to study, while others study their ass off and still don’t do quite so well.

It’s not exactly racist. Just ignorant.

I believe all the 1’s and 2’s come from students such as the OP.

That’s a great question. The cheap Asian in me wonders why people would blow off an exam that costs $82.

@strawbearries: Haha I completely agree. Although for us, it costs $86 Dx.

Oh my bad, I think it’s $86 for us too.

My school pays for ours

DD’s friend fell asleep a couple of years ago and got a two.

Who cares where they come from? They are helping me get 5s.

They come from me.

@NewAccount: high fives

I agree. The more ignorant people who don’t understand the gravity of an AP test are certainly welcome to take the tests.

My school gets the calculus 1s and 2s. We have 30ish kids who take it and not one has passed it (a 3) in 7 years [HORRIBLE teacher who doesn’t know *****]. Even though it was tough, I’m hoping for a 4 or 5. :)

…so is that the south? No one answered the OP yet.

Students who prepare based strictly on curricula that isn’t geared toward the AP exams themselves. I know my Lit class has a ~50% pass rate (that’s 3’s and counting…there are probably only about 10% of those who do pass that get 4’s and 5’s). Also, there are those whose experience with APs is limited. I digress. Basically, if one doesn’t prep outside the classroom at my school, it’s a crapshoot in regards to passing.

Can you really blame it on the teacher?

I had a student teacher for seven/eight weeks and my teacher barely taught for three… I’m 100% sure I nailed a 5 on the exam. A bad teacher is unfortunate and decreases the chances of performing well, yes, but the teacher isn’t taking the exam with you.

My AP chem teacher went to an AP workshop and apparently on the test kids write notes. On one test someone wrote, “Chem teacher got replaced by gym teacher” lol. That’s where the majority of the 1/2’s come from: schools with VERY VERY low budgets. The rest come from slackers I suppose (and by slacker I mean EXTREME slacker since 3 is average so these people have to be below average).

People who had horrible teachers but took the test anyway. Or people who self-study but don’t do that well. Or yeah, people who didn’t study.
It’s interesting though. I’ve heard of very few 1s and 2s at my school…then again, you probably wouldn’t proclaim that to the world.
