Where do they live? Can you stay on campus if you want to? Isn't it a hassle to move off campus and commute in for classes?

The students rent houses around the campus, most of these houses are within walking distance. It’s been going on a long time so, as I understand it, the houses sort of pass from one group of students to the next. I don’t think it’s any more of a hassle than moving into a new dorm room each year. You can still buy a meal plan and eat on campus if you don’t want to cook. I’m not sure how it’s determined who lives on campus after sophomore year.

There is a big array of near-by neighborhood housing stock and lots of student group with friends to get an apartment or house that is walking distance to campus. Upperclassmen can stay on campus and there are dorms with apartments (Douglas). It all seems to get worked out informally after the first year and rents are very reasonable; many kids stay on a meal plan if they don’t like to cook.

My daughter lived off campus for the last two years in a house with 4 other girls. I was kind of concerned about it until I became more familiar with the community. It’s not a hassle at all. Tons of students live off campus once they become juniors. I would expect that it’s more than 38%. Some dorms have space for upperclassmen, so has bopampo said you could stay on campus. There are so many off-campus houses that are really close. My daughter’s was less than 2 blocks. It was also quite a bit cheaper!

My daughter is moving off campus with some friends next year for her junior year. The house is just a half block from the school. They have it all worked out so that another group will take their places when they are all on their study abroads. Even though the cafeteria food is pretty good, as such things go, she’s looking forward to being able to cook her own meals. Most of her friends are moving off campus after their sophomore year, but for those who want to stay on campus, there are plenty of options.
