Where is it? Also, is it hard to get into? I have a 89 average but no honors classes and lots of comm service.

It's right next to San Jose.

SCU is considered one of the few really good schools that good students, not stellar ones, can still get into. If you go to the SCU web site, search the Common Data set for the 05-06 freshman class. You will be able to compare your grades and SAT's or ACT's to those of current students. They do take students with lower B averages and SAT's in the 500 + range. They have a nice composition of truely gifted students, very bright students and very good students. I would not call it a school for the average kid. Take honors and or AP's if you can get them. Take the most challenging classes you can.

Santa Clara University is in the heart of Silicon Valley (San Francisco Bay Area) 45 miles south of San Francisco, 15 miles south of Stanford University and 3 1/2 miles north of downtown San Jose.

Is it realistic for me to get in coming from a Catholic school in Pa. I have an 88 average and 1 honors class. Plus 100 hours of community service.

its realistic. if you mean 88 being a 3.8 on the gpa scale.

its actually not that hard to get in with, just come up with the money and have over a 3.5 and you should b set.

Santa Clara is pretty close to some great areas. San Francisco and Santa Cruz are both about an hour away. So you can get everything, beach and city. I'm not a big fan of San Jose (the downtown is cool), but the surrounding areas are great.

Santa Clara is a pretty good school, it's underrated

gpa looks good but sats/act are important ... ahve u taken them yet?

santa clara has a b-e-a-utiful campus near san jose. it's also near to san francisco and palo alto. apparently kids often take the train/rail thingy? (not sure of the name) to stanford for partays. it's a great location for a college (silicon valley). driving up you see buildings for ebay and other well known computer companies etc.

I believe that would be the Cal train. The station is right across the street from the SCU campus. There is also a free shuttle bus to the San Jose Airport from the train station that runs every ten minutes all day long and well into the night. VERY convenient. The campus, as noted, is very pretty. The students are nice. Personally, I think the Jesuits have college educations down pat. Their programs and philosophies are great. The campus is a nice size...not too big and not too small. They are in the process of building a new library. Facilities are quite good, and are well maintained. Dorms are nice and the food is decent (or so DD says). Only down side is the price...it's expensive. But our family felt it was worth the investment.

yes the Cal train, thanks thumper1. does your daughter stay at the SCU campus or does she venture out into San Jose/Palo Alto?

I don't think my daughter has been to Palo Alto. She and her friends do take the bus to the mall every so often. She has been to San Jose, and they have plans to spend some time in San Fran when the weather warms up a bit. She says there is almost always something to do right on the SCU campus.
