I went to a college prepatory catholic high school in CT. Our val had a perfect 4.33 gpa uw and was the captain of the baseball and basketball team. He applied to Yale and was shut down somehow. But he went to Uconn med school.

Well we have a bunch of special awards (about 5?) for most dedicated to extracurriculars, most well rounded etc. and valedictorian is just one of them.
The valedictorian this year was relatively unheard of and I have no idea (nor do most people) where he will be going, however student awarded as being most well-rounded is going somewhere impressive by my school (and CC) standards: Princeton.

My high school Val went to the local community college for their sound tech program… her dad owns a recording studio though.

Liberty University

We don’t have “vals” (school doesn’t rank).

People who would be val/ close to it:

Vanderbilt
Michigan
Yale

…and this one girl who I’m sure is nowhere near val is going to Harvard.
