I am an 8th grader and want to apply to a few very selective prep schools and am wondering if I am a strong enough applicant.
my school doesn’t really have a GPA as we don’t get grades but get extensive reports (don’t ask
I guess I am a strong math student as I scored well on AMC (21 or 22 out of 25) and got 750 on Math SAT in 7th grade
i got invited to join some exceptionally gifted program through John Hopkins University
My SSAT is 89% (800 math, 704 Verbal, 685 Reading Comp) But i can take it again i guess
I used to be a competitive athlete with a national ranking but i quit a year ago to focus on theatre/drama
been acting for the past 4 years.I always play leads in school plays and had a few ensemble roles in professional theatre.
am a pretty decent dancer as far as musical theatre goes.
i play the piano pretty well, classical and jazz.
my passion is probably theatre and math/science
my English/writing skills arent nearly as good as my math and i don’t read as much as I should.
Which schools should i apply to? I am really curious about top boarding schools but also a bit hesitant to leave home. have been looking at Commonwealth School in Boston and Nobles and Greenough in Dedham
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you live in Boston or a suburb. Have you thought of Concord Academy? You might be able to take the train there depending on where you live if you want that option.
You sound like a great candidate. I know there are tons of good options in Boston suburbs. I know Nobles is a great school. I don’t know the names of the others; just know you are in a great location if you prefer day school.
Come to BB&N! The school is quite rigorous, and the theatre program is excellent. Also, athletically the school is quite strong, and I know for a fact that the baseball and football teams are very good, as well as in other sports. bbns.org
Come to Choate Rosemary Hall! You’d be an amazing fit and we have a great theatre program. We’re actually in the process of building a huge brand-new theater, and our orchestra is one of the nation’s best. Choate is close enough to Boston that there are school-sponsored weekend trips there. On Wikipedia, you can find a list of high-achieving alumni. You’ll find actors like Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Douglas.
Look at Choate and Kent School if you are willing to give CT a shot. The schools are different in many ways but are both terrific places to live and learn. They each have strong academics and offer wonderful music, arts, dance and theater programs. Both have many successful graduates in the creative areas. You can also dabble in sports at each if you still want to, while also pursuing what interests you most. Best of luck with your search.
