I've enjoyed reading through the Rochester threads and found the information most helpful.

DD and I are touring the campus next week and attending an information session in the early afternoon. Where should we go for lunch? We will have approximately 1 1/2 hours between the tour and information session.

Also, DD is leaning toward a career in the science/medicine field. Are there any not-to-be-missed things we must see?

Not much to see specifically regarding science/medicine since you really can’t tour the hospital or most of the research labs.

If you have time to burn, consider visiting any or all of the following: Highland Park & Lamberton Conservatory (very pretty, esp if the lilacs are in bloom), Memorial Art Gallery (UR’s art museum) or the National Museum of Play (children’s hands-on science museum that fun for adults too).

Also if you visit RPI, there is a Dinosaur in Troy as well, fairly close to campus.

Creekland—never made it to Sticky Lips. Brother in law did, and thought sides were too salty–he preferred Dinosaur. Well, that’s why there’s vanilla AND chocolate, right??

I’ve been to both. The BBQ meats are more or less equally good, but I like the sides at Dinosaur better.

And Dinosaur is closer to campus.

(Dang, now I want to stop at the Whole Hog Cafe and pick up some BBQ for dinner. And I want some fried green tomatoes, but Whole Hog doesn’t sell them. :(( )

Vanilla and chocolate - definitely. We vastly prefer the sides at Sticky Lips, and like WayOutWestMom, consider the meats both more or less equally good.

We’ve had BBQ twice since this thread started. I blame the thread. They were quite tasty meals though! ;)

Thank you all for your advice. We toured today and dines at Dinosaur BBQ. It was fantastic! We are a BBQ-loving family and everyone found something that sounded good to them and it was all wonderful.

We were greatly impressed with our tour guide and DD was pretty impressed.

Dinosaur BBQ is a classic and U of R student favorite. If you want to go to a place with decent food and students often frequent for birthdays, to watch a game, or for a nice night out head to the Distillery by the CVS. Definitely check out the Park Ave. area. Jines and Frog Pond have AMAZING brunch/lunch, Magnolia cafe is a rochester classic. Barack has even visited
