On my resume, there is a spot for both ecs and volunteer commitments. If I’m actively involved in a service club on campus (that is involved in various projects with various organizations, not something like a “Red Cross Club”) should I bother listing down various ways I volunteer through them under “Volunteer Commitments.”
Right now, just to avoid any deception, I have the club listed again under volunteering, with more specific information on what I specifically have done. Is this alright or is it extraneous?
Most colleges don’t look at your resume. If they’re a Common App school, you’ll have a section to list ten ECs. That being said, your bunching the club under voluntarism is perfectly fine. Categorizing isn’t as important as defining the club/activity.
And keep in mind that it’s quality not quantity that matters. The fact that you can fill all ten spots is not impressive in the slightest. You want to highlight the activities that define your interests, say something about who you are and what you have to offer the school - not create a laundry list of everything that you ever spent a few hours on. Resume padding sticks out like a sore thumb and, worse, detracts from the clarity of the picture you are trying to create in an adcom’s mind.
