Where to perform research?

Would Stanford like it if Person A did research in a prestegious place like Intel rather than researching in a simple start up company?

My school doesn't offer research. It doesn't want to participate in student research. Am I screwed?

... you don't seem to have the right attitude towards research
it doesn't matter. where there's a will, there's a way. and research isn't just done to get into college..

I'd argue that in general (I can't speak for Stanford specifically), what research you did (and what you LEARNED) is more important than where you worked at. Or heck, go to the place that you feel you'd have more fun working at, or has the project you're more interested in working on.

-No. A lot of high schools don't offer "research", like mine for example. It's normal.

Stop worrying, nothing is going to "guarantee you" in or out of anywhere. It's all just a massive crapshoot. Enjoy your senior year?

Yep, thanks Dauntless9. Your info has helped me a lot!

As for explode:
I have nothing to say to you. I can only pitty on how ignorant you are. Let me ask you this man. How do you know whether I "have the right attitude towards research" or not? You only judged me just because I posted, what, three sentences about research? How can you judge me by that? What the hell do you know about me? Really, I don't want to fight. Just don't pis me anymore. Have a nice day.

btw: I never said research was the only way to get into college. Think before you say something or write explode.

eh, I never meant it in a bad way like that --maybe "attitude" wasn't the right word exactly... I meant it more like "perspective." .... needn't get defensive or angry. I'm sorry, it's my fault that I made it unclear. it's just that the way you phrased your question I took it as "If I don't do research will Stanford hate me?" the answer to that is no, of course not. If Stanford only accepted people who did research their student body would be really boring, anyway. just do what you like and do well in it. research is only one of many options... but in the end it doesnt matter what it is you love and excel at.. just the mere fact that you love and excel at it is enough.

if you want to get a mentor though, read up and then politely email (you might have to email a lot before you get one though, b/c professors are really busy people and not all really care for hs students)

Oh...ok thanks. I shouldn't have have yelled like that too. My bad. At least you appoligized...something almost no one does. Thanks. I just had a bad day.
