Can someone give me a recommendation for a hotel in NYC for unifides 2015?
Can you also tell me what other schools may be auditioning in NY that are not members?

We stayed at the New Yorker, which was across and down the street from Pearl Studios. The subway trip to Pace was a straight shot. Check out the roll call threads for this past year’s Unifieds because there is a wealth of information to be found there.

Also look into Airbnb (if NYC hasn’t outlawed it by then) – my S and I stayed in a great 1BR a short walk away from Pearl, way cheaper than a hotel and we had a full kitchen.

Yes, Airbnb and VRBO are wonderful! We used VRBO for Unifieds in Chicago and stayed in a gorgeous high rise right across the street from one of the Unified hotels. 1 bd, 1.5ba with gourmet kitchen and floor to ceiling windows (and balcony! although it was 0 degrees and snowing) overlooking Millennium Park/City for less than the cost of a hotel room. We were there for 4 days so the extra space and the ability to make breakfast and whatnot was fantastic. And it was nice to retreat from the chaos of the hotels after the day’s auditions were concluded.

We second the New Yorker suggestion. It’s perfectly located, attached to a 24/7 diner, and has a great lobby to use during downtime for kids or parents waiting. It’s best to check with each school of interest to see if they’ll be auditioning in NYC the same weekend. I know it’s tedious, but it changes from year to year. Otherwise, I would just suggest intermittently staying connected here to see the latest on schools that might not be on your radar yet but do wind up in NYC that weekend. Have a great year!

What is your budget? And what region of the city do you want to be in? Do you want something right in the middle of Times Square? Something closer to Central Park?

We stay at either Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden Inn in NYC when we go. We have stayed at the Hampton Inn in Soho, and are staying at the HIlton Garden Inn in Chelsea in August. Enroll in HIlton Honors, AAA or AARP if you can. That way you can get discounts. When we went in February for auditions, we stayed at the Hampton Soho for $122 a night. Yes, that is correct! Jan-Feb. in n New York is the off season. Start looking now and book early.
