If you were feeling stressed and overwhelmed with work and could get away where would you go?
Bonus if it was an easy get to from the west coast. Is Hawaii packed with kids in the summer?
I would go to Ma’alaea or Kihei Hawaii (Maui) - if I was overly stressed I’d choose Ma’alaea - 4 mile stretch of white sand beach for long (solo) walks, a bird/wildlife refuge right there as well to reflect. I’d get groceries at the start, and I’d only do things walking distance from the condo (it’s a small condo village), like a sunset catamaran ride from the harbor, I might branch out and eat a meal at Tantes (also at the harbor & walking distance) I’d bring books, and my watercolors and read and paint. After a few days I might take a drive and hit up a food truck and bring it back to eat on my lanai while watching the sun set. I’m very happy to travel solo.
Mountains. Any mountains I could get to easily, though the Andes are my favorite. Yes, I like them better than the Himalayas.
I’d hit the Oregon shore.
The ocean calms and centers me like nothing else, so I’d also choose the Oregon coast.
Hapuna Beach or Mauna Kea resorts on the Big Island.
I would choose Maui, Lahaina area, or Big Island Mauna Kea. Depending upon your budget, a stay at a beachfront resort, or an airbnb and go to the public beaches (there are many wonderful ones). But if you’re just totally fried, and have the means, and want to just relax, Mauna Kea resort is lovely.
Pretty much anywhere you go during school vacation time is going to have families with young children, unless you go to an adults only resort.
My best excursion is anyplace without cell phone service or internet.

Three days in Santa Barbara would do it for me! Bike, staring at the water, ice cream…
Mammoth Lakes
Summer at our camp in Vermont. No cellphone. No internet. You can hike on our property for hours and never see a soul.
I like mountains more than oceans. I just got back from Colorado and loved it.
San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Italy–it caught my attention after watching White Lotus!
A calm, cove-like beach for snorkeling. Just float, burn, and watch the fish. With the arrival of “prunehands”, I’d take a break for a nap in a shady spot.
Where on the globe? Well I have done this on Culebra, Culebrita, Cozumel, and St. John.
St. John’s beaches were the prettiest, while the beaches were the most sparsely populated on Culebra and Culebrita – sometimes, you have the beach to yourself (unless it’s Flamenco Beach, the famous one on Culebra).
We’re going to Cabo in August, and I hope Cabo Pulmo and Lovers Beach pass muster.
Depends a lot on what relaxes you. I love the mountains. We go every year to the Canadian Rockies. I like lakes in the mountains and might go to somewhere in Colorado. Or, maybe to great hiking in places in New Mexico.
For beaches, I’m less of an expert. We had a very relaxing vacation in Baja California Sur one year (rented a lovely house in Los Barriles). Windy but really nice place. Relatively easy flight from the west coast to Cabo or La Paz. Not sure how hot it would be in the summer.
Bali was one of the nicest places I’ve been – especially out of the main tourist area. Similarly, we had a surprisingly good and relaxing time in Croatia.
We were fortunate to purchase a house on the bank of a river surrounded by conservation land and a horse farm in a sub/exurb. It is so relaxing that I would stay here.
LOL. The bar about 10 minutes away. Great atmosphere and super hamburgers.
Do you mean McConnells? I’d say just mcconnell’s would be a nice escape for me. So good!
Sweet treats aside, for recommendations I’d be another vote for Lahaina or north of there. The snorkeling is unfortunately going downhill over the past decade so catch it before there is further reef deterioration.
I’m not Blossom but I’m more a Rori’s fan. My daughter loves McConnells.
