My mom knows but shes adamant that it isn't possible until 2008's numbers come out.

Yes, she needs to do the 2008 taxes first.

So the end of January?

as soon as she gets them done. It usually depends on when all the various tax documents like W-2s arrive.

Alright thanks...man I still am kinda confused about the aid..I mean we should get what we need and what we deserve for our hard work.

Yes and you deserve a whole lot more than you will actually receive.

You've worked very hard and deserve a reward. That reward however, is generally getting into a good college and more work once you get there.

Be proud of your accomplishments.

I'm sure the aid business will all work out.

Lets hope..and thanks lol.

You can actually fill it out now with estimated numbers and then make corrections online once the taxes are done. Make sure you already have your PIN number.

Also, don't forget that you also have to fill out the CSS profile. You can fill that out ahead of time also, but in order to make corrections later you need to print out the original, cross out old info, write in the new and mail it to Tulane.

From the SOuth: Have you tried the EFC calculator to get an idea of what your EFC will be??

One advantage all of you have this year is that Tulane has stated on their new applicants website that aid will not include loans.

Well I wish I had gotten more scholarship..Tulane seems so random with their awards. This guy got 24k with a 2100 SAT and 3.0 gpa UW...rank like 25% or something.

I mean what the hell..I'm Louisiana Native, 3.92 gpa, 31 act and I get 20k. Lollll

and thanks I'll get that PIN today + the EFC calculator what/where is that located?

fromthesouth- it may have been harder for you to get 24k as a LA native because there are multiple other opportunities for scholarships as a LA resident. also, it's unfair, but you're competing against LA students from, say, Benjamin Franklin HS, one of the top magnet schools in the country who've succeeded in harder courses than you. of course, you haven't had access to these courses, but there's not really any way to know how you would have performed in them.
that being said, it appears that tulane really wants you to attend and will give you more financial aid as you need it. you can google an efc calculator or find one on collegeboard.com

Alright..and I guess you are right. Living in a poor area sure does have its disadvantages..we don't even have AP classes LOL.

from the south

Here is the link for EFC calculator

FinAid | Calculators | Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Financial Aid

I would run it using both the federal methodology (to determine if you qualify for Federal aid), and then I would run it using institutional methodology because that is the method that Tulane uses to give need based aid using info from the CSS profile (major difference is that the institutional methodology considers the equity in your home, and from experience, TUlane expects a family contribution of about 5% of your home equity)

Also, Tulane does gap aid by about 5% For example if based on the CSS PRofile they decide you have a zero EFC (I don't think you will, I think it will be higher unless you have a large family and no house) But anyway, ewven someone with a zero EFC may be gapped 2500 (5% of the 50,000 cost)

Don't worry too much about not getting the biggest scholarship. WIth an income of 50,000 you will probably qualify for need based aid from Tulane and the scholarship would only serve to reduce your need further. In other words, it would even out. THe scholarships are great for kids whose parents have high EFC's and would have to pay full cost if they didn't have it.

im being forced to go instate because of the financial costs.
