I am a homeschooler going into 9th grade in September. I am taking AP Human Geography, but I also want to take another History class.
AP Art History (I know this is Art, not Social Studies)
AP US History
AP World History
AP European History
These are my options. I think I am only able to successfully take one of them for my first year, but I will take all of them eventually as well as US Government and Politics and non-social studies. So, which of the four listed options should I take?
If you are going to take all of them eventually, start with the easiest one, which is AP World History. Also, the AP World History exam is changing starting the 2016-2017 school year. Take it this upcoming year (2015-2016 year) so you know the format and so you aren’t part of the “guinea pig” class that has to take the revised exam. The AP Art History and AP European History courses are being changed this year (2015-2016), so you don’t want to take them this year and be a part of that “guinea pig” class either. I think taking any other one of those classes would be mistake. Personally, I would take them in this order:
9th: AP World History
10th: AP U.S. History (revised for the 2014-2015 school year, so the format will be better known by 2016-2017 year)
11th: AP European History (revised for the 2015-2016 school year, so the format will be better known by the 2017-2018 school year)
12th: AP Art History (revised for the 2015-2016, so the format will be better known by the 2018-2019 school year. Also, this one is easier than AP European History. If you would like an easier class senior year, take this one senior year. If you want an easier AP History class junior year, swap Euro and Art.)
I know you didn’t ask for all of this advice, but I just want to make sure you are aware of the changes coming to AP.
Best of luck!
Thanks for the advice! I think I will do that.
