Which are the Hot Fraternities at UF?

I'm transfering in the Spring and am considering rushing. I know very little about the frats at UF with regard to their respective reputations and whatnot. Some of my friends in my one semester at American University were Pikes but I never felt compelled to rush right away since I thought I would be there throughout my entire undergrad experience. So naturally, I decided I was going to rush Pike at UF, only to learn they were suspended until 2011!

I hear SigEp, Sigma Chi, Pikapp, and Beta are top tier fraternities, but this is based on hear-say. Any info would be helpful people. Thanks

Personally, I like SigEp and AEPi.

If your a quality guy, the only place that is difficult to get a bid from is SigEp. They have a monopoly over all the rest of the fraternities.

Sigma Chi, SAE, and ATO are good if your the country club, prepster. Pi Kapp is good if your from Miami, S.Florida.

All the rest are not very good in my opinion.

What makes Pi Kapp good for South Floridians?

SAE seems a little crazy and over the top to me. I've really only meet guys from Delta Chi and Lambda Chi and they were both really nice.

The guys from Sigma Nu are also really fun but they arent like typical frat guys.

Pi Kapp is dominated by kids from Miami. The ones not from Miami, are from S.Florida. Might get only a few guys from Jax and Tampa.

Well I'm from Miami, but I don't particularly want to travel six/seven hours North to find myself affiliated with the same type of people I've been around for the last 21 years. A breath of fresh air would be cool.

Well if you got what it takes then join SigEp. Also if your interested in student government then join Phi Delta Theta, they pretty much have Blue Key & leadership positions on lockdown.

Oh by the way, not being a Freshman or Sophmore will be a strike against you. But if you can prove that your serious it won't be a problem at some, but might be a deal breaker at others.

My boyfriend is a Beta, and Beta is really good... really nice and FUN guys. SigEp and Sigma Chi are good too!

Is AEPi hard to rush?

No........

I heard that Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) is up and coming. True?

I hadn't even heard of those dudes until the last day of rush. Check them out in the fall and let us know what you think.

Sean,
So how's it going at UF so far?
How do you like it so far- you're a transfer, right? Kind of a cold time of year to come to Gainesville, so you haven't quite the same feel as someone coming in at the heat of August. Looks like the basketball team is fresh, but good things are coming. Did you rush? How do you like the feel of the town so far? Welcome to UF!

Sorry it took me about a week doubleplay. Everything is going great. I love it here. I did rush and I am now a pledge at one of the best frats on campus. I look forward to getting involved in activities and whatnot in the future. The town is cool. As far as I know it's kind of small. I should dedicate an entire day to exploring it in its entirety. Thanks for asking man.

Been following your search with interest. Sounds like G'ville is treating you well so far. Who did you pick to pledge?

Thought I would revive this thread with Fraternity rush starting this weekend. What’s changed in five years? Now that Sig Ep closed who took their spot at the top? Please share opinions on Frats at UF.

I am interested in finding out what others have to say. My son is a jr at UF and since he is an Engineering major he decided against rushing.

I graduated from UF in 81. I am a Pike we had a strong house. SAE, ATO, Sig Chi were strong as well.

I understand that the rushing is different now than it was back then. But then again what isnt??

Also a parent (son decided to rush Chi Phi). Is there any link (looked at the UF site and national) where I can learn more? I was independent so many years ago.

UFBONITA he will be fine at ChiPhi they are a good frat. Which imo makes them a great frat. They are top tiered which is better because they are not worried about winning awards and dont put to much pressure on the students.

So relax just tell him to use common sense and everything will be all right.

I am sure some students will chime in and report a similar report.
