Congrats! I was another one who stayed silent but had my doubts. You really worked hard and turned it around. Good for you!
@calla1 HAHAH WOW YALL ARE SHADY but thank you!
another update! I just got into chapman university for communications!
@Gumbymom which is a better school? chapman or csuf? i dont know where to find reliable rankings
Most rankings are for graduate programs. The better school will depend upon you. Which school fits you best financially/academically and socially. Only you can answer these questions. I am big believer in spreadsheets/lists so select criteria as type of courses offered, class sizes, costs (transportation/dorms/books), career center/job/internship availability etc… and see if one looks better than the other.
@Gumbymom how would i find out which school has better job/internship resources? i would assume chapman
also how do you feel about psychology vs communications? i like both but i dont want to be forced into having to go to grad school with psych. im not against it but i feel like with communications i would have more stable degree. what do you think?
I really cannot give a helpful opinion on job outlooks and internships for either major. I do know an advance degree is usually the route for a better paying job for Psych, but this holds true for many majors these days. Advanced degrees for a variety of majors are required for good paying jobs and I do not know enough about what is required to advance in the communications fields. I would look up the career centers for both schools to get an idea of job/internship postings. Visit during admitted student days and talk to the career center advisors, students in these majors and professors to get a feel for the academic programs at each school, job prospects/internship opportunities and such.
You will get a good education at both schools, but a smaller more personal environment might be found at Chapman. I do not think you can go wrong with either school.
Congrats!
Can you afford Chapman?
thanks!!! and kinda lol i should be okay for only 2 years
if you need to take on debt to go to Chapman, go to Fullerton.
@NCalRent well for fullerton im a psych major but i dont want to do that anymore. chapman im a communications major and i heard at fullerton you cant switch majors once youre there
I am pretty sure Fullerton will allow you to switch once you arrive. For most CSUs it is as simple as filing a form with the registrar, more competitive or STEM majors often have pre-reqs and GPA thresholds. Call and ask before burying yourself in debt. Chapman is $40k per year more than Fullerton, You will come out way ahead at CSUF, even if it takes an extra semester or two to cover the pre-reqs. Trust me - you don’t want to start your career in that kind of debt. I mean, that 80k is a REALLY nice car or a down payment on a condo and a dozen other things you’d prefer to have as you get your start.
@NCalRent yes i am going to call and ask them tomorrow… but if i can’t change then i’d have to go to chapman.
i just feel like employers will hold a degree from chapman higher than they would a degree from fullerton. since csuf is a state school with so many students the opportunities for internships/job connections post grad would be more attainable at chapman.
Chapman is a small school that’s relatively unknown outside SoCal, As a CSU Fullerton is a known quantity anywhere in the country - honestly though, the schools reputation matters a lot less than you think, particularly a few years after graduation. There are plenty of career opportunities graduating from either. At full tuition, Chapman is tough to justify vs a place like Fullerton, especially if it buries you in debt.
I invite you to go to LinkedIn and check out the companies and jobs people who graduated from Fullerton have.
Congratulations on getting into Cal State Fullerton! Much less expensive than Chapman and is Nationally Ranked (US News 2018) unlike Chapman. If you can afford Chapman though, it would be a great opportunity as well!
In SoCal, most employers will not significantly distinguish between Chapman and Cal State Fullerton. Really. It’s not going to be an issue, as those two schools are close enough together. It will be what you do there and what skills you come out with that matter to getting your first job. Good luck!
Very true…what you do there and what skills you come out with (and job performance) really supercede college location and rankings.
@Fisherman99 i feel as though it will be easier for me to stand out at chapman than at fullerton because its smaller so i wouldnt have to fight for positions/internships/job opportunities. everyone has been telling me to go to chapman and that i shouldnt be too worried about the tuition because i am going to be getting a good amount of financial aid.
also at csuf the parking is nightmare and you have to get to the school 2 hours before your class to get parking and sometimes dont even get a spot
The only part I disagree with is not to listen to where “everyone is telling me to go”…check out the ranks and locations yourself and make your decison for YOURSELF and not “others”. Completely agree with you on everything else…not fighting for internships, horrible parking, great financial aid, and that “small college experience” is very rare now in California. Congratulations on becoming a Chapman Panther!
