So, I am thinking of purchasing a calculator. Is there any suggestions?

TI-83 or 84.

is there any difference in between those?

The TI-84 has more memory, more processing speed, and a few extra built-in apps. Otherwise, the basic functionality of the two calculators is virtually identical.

I just bought the new TI-Nspire CAS. I haven’t used it yet so I can’t tell you whether it’s good or not, but from what I’ve seen, it looks promising.

ti-89, hands down probably the best graphing calculator. I haven’t heard of the Nspire so I’ll probably take a quick look once I post this. The TI-89 has so many features and is widely used in colleges. I would recommend Titanium as the edition, since it has more memory and faster processing speeds.

Don’t buy the TI-89 for high school, though. Most teachers and standarized tests don’t allow you to use it.

It’s allowed for SAT and SATIIs… what other high school standarized tests are you talking about? Maybe some don’t allow it but certainly not most…

Math competitions generally don’t allow any calculatorial devices at all so that doesn’t really matter.

wait… standardized tests? every standardized test, IB, SAT, ACT, SATII, AP all accept the TI-89. I have never had a problem with teachers not allowing a TI-89. I know for a fact that is widely used in college, why would you want to buy it again when you go to college?

is the ti 89 better for ap stats than the ti 84??

No math teacher at my high school allows the TI-89. Every math test I’ve taken in competitions did not allow it either.

Just for clarification, neither the TI-89 nor the TI-NSpire CAS are allowed on the ACT/IB exams. However, they are allowed for use on the PSAT, SAT, SAT II, etc.

It’s worth mentioning though that it is contingent upon your math teacher as to whether or not you are allowed to use the calculator in class. There’s no universally applicable rule that states “Freedom of calculators.” Haha…future constitutional amendment maybe :p.

Just to make it straight, is Ti-89 allowed in Sat 1?
