<p>Surprising that the net worth is figured so low, for upper middle. Anyone who has owned a modest house over time, or accumulated some retirement savings ends up in the top 5th, if I'm assessing right. </p>

<p>If you delve more deeply into all the pages of the poll,it offers some fascinating facts and insights. I was surprised at the number of people who think that your income has to be over $500,000 or even into the millions to be "rich", when the NYTimes defines the upper fifth of incomes as over $60,000. Poke around, it's interesting. I'd like to see the answers broken down by age, too.</p>
