I’m an international student who requires substantial amount of financial aid. Which college should I apply to for ED. I am well aware of how very little chances I have… Which is why I’m asking applying ED to which college will be COMPARATIVELY the most beneficial to me??
ED locks you in if accepted. While you can decline an offer for financial reasons, you will have few other FA offers to compare, if any. And for most colleges, the Net Price Calculator is inaccurate for internationals. And other than Amherst, all colleges that offer ED are need-aware for internationals.
Well… I actually have percentage system
9th- 95% (top of class)
10th- 94.8% (top of class)
11th- 80% (Classes whole year were online but the exams were offline; also, my parents suffered from covid at that time, I had to work part time)
P.S. My school is not well known, or known at all. I think I’ll be the only student applying to an international university in like 4-5 years or more.
ACT- Will give if the centre remains open. Have taken several practice tests without preperation, been scoring above 32 in each one.
I’m pretty sure my demonstrated need will be 100%… Or close to it.
My question was actually more of a college based than my stats based. Cuz my stats will be same for each college I apply to-- I wanna know which college has such stats and policies for students like me that my ED acceptance rate, in comparison to other colleges, will be the most beneficial.
I’m only considering colleges providing need based FA. So I’m pretty sure I’ll get a manageable FA offer. Please don’t start arguing on this point… And as a matter of fact… Even if I’m required to pay some amount, I’ll manage. In my previous threads also people started discussing FA options rather than the original question.
If you are international, you should not apply ED - period. Everyone says they understand their finances - but you don’t as each school looks at them differently and for many schools, international students lose certain accesses.
Buyer beware.
ED is not the panacea the schools make it out to be. Yes, rates are higher - but that includes recruited kids such as athletes and also, other scholarship opportunities tend to go to RD kids at many colleges.
ED is good for the colllege, not so much for the student in many cases, especially when applying internationally.
I agree with recruited athletes point. BUT, even if we don’t consider them, acceptance rate for for rest of ED applicants is still higher than RD in many T50 colleges.
For FA, if worst comes to worst, students are allowed to reject ED acceptance if they’re unable to pay expected costs.
I’m unable to see what’s the harm in applying ED??
