Which college is better for a shy latino male: UC santa Cruz or UC Merced?
My son was accepted in UC Santa Cruz and UC Merced, and is trying to decide which one he will go to. He has difficulty making new friends. At this moment he needs to make friends who are supportive to him . In case you have any experience with these two universities, please help .
I have never been to the UC Merced campus, but the UC Santa Cruz campus is really beautiful and (in my view) on the upswing. It was also named one of the best colleges in the country for Latino/a students by one website, due to high graduation rates and El Centro, an on campus resource center for Latina/o students. https://elcentro.ucsc.edu/
I would visit both, if you are able. Congrats to you all on his acceptances!
I’m not sure you can make a decision like that on a campus-wide basis. A shy student will make friends best in the place where he feels most engaged both academically and socially.
Suggest that he look in to clubs and organizations that interest him at both schools.
