Which college should I apply to for premed?

I'm a freshman in high school and I'm looking at some colleges that I might be interested in. I want to go to med school so I was wondering what the best premed programs are and which ones I might be accepted into realistically. I've taken the SAT's as part of the John Hopkins Talent Search. In 8th grade, i got a 1700 (560 CR, 610 Math, and 530 Writing). Right now my overall average is a 97 (unweighted) and I'm an 98% sure I will be ranked in the top 10 in my class my senior year. I'm taking AP World History this year with an average so far of a 95, am in a 10th grade honors geometry class (99 average), a honors biology (99 average), honors ela, and business law. I plan on self learning AP psychology and am preparing to take it next May(of 2012). Next year, as a sophomore, I will be taking honors chemistry and honors physics (physics is for juniors) and algebra 2 and trig along with other mandatory classes.I also plan on taking throughout high school AP US History, AP Calc, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Physics. I'm probably going to take AP Stats, AP Economics, and AP Government. I'm going to take the SAT2's for Mandarin (I'm fluent) and also the two biology tests and math one. I want to go to JHU. NYU doesn't seem to bad either. So what are my chances of getting into those colleges and what are other colleges could I realistically get into. (BTW my ethnicity is asian if it matters.)

Also should I apply to one of those colleges that offers the combined bachelor’s and medical school thing? Are those actually good to apply/attend?

I’m also in DECA and Rotary/Interact Club. I’m probably going to do Interact next year and DECA my junior and senior year. I’m also going to join our science olympiad team. I have about 90 hrs of community service (not church related) from being a TA at our local Chinese School (where I am the only graduate so far :)). I’m going to keep being a TA throughout highschool (I’ll probably have at least 400 hrs by the end of senior year).

JHU is nice, maybe some Ivy’s for a bio major?

It is very admirable that you are thinking of this as a freshman. But your options are huge as to schools for pre med, pre med is not a major, it is a track of studies to prepare you for the MCAT and the next level. You can even major in a foreign language. the school is not going to matter so much as what you absorb when you get there.

Most people like to have the big university name on there diploma for undergraduate. But for you if you go to med school, that is where you will say you graduated from.

The school that you choose for undergraduate should be the school that you are the most comfortable at.

Sounds like you’re becoming another believer in the myth that some schools have that “special touch” that lets them turn lead into gold, taking average students and turning them into stellar med school applicants. In fact there are many, many colleges that do a good job of preparing students for med school. Here’s what to look for; it’s from an excellent premed guide at Amherst that I suggest you read
