Unfortunately, there are only a few weeks left before I have to commit to colleges. My top choices were Boston University and Boston College, but I won’t be able to afford to go to either of them. According to FAFSA my EFC is too high to contribute any sort of significant financial contribution but my family has a lot of debts and I have siblings that would hinder going to my dream university.
So I’m deciding between St. John’s University, Stony Brook, and Fordham University. My intended major is business, but I’m planning to double major in biology and take the requisites for med/PA school. I am looking for a career possibly in medicine (thus PA), but I’m not exactly sure if I want to do med, so business was a backup option, in case I decided not to do med.
I live in Queens, NY so geographically St. Johns would be the closest and I’ve received a guaranteed full-tuition scholarship for the next 4 years for St. John’s and admittance into their honors program, so traveling and tuition shouldn’t be a problem. At Fordham University, I’ve received about 17,750 in combined aid and scholarships, and although the commute is 1.5 hours, I wouldn’t mind doing the commute if it is good academically. As for Stony Brook, I’ve received 4,250 in the form of scholarship and need but I would have to dorm, as the commute is 2.5 hrs via public trans and an hour by driving.
Which school would be better for the sciences and for their business program? Also, does an undergraduate education greatly impact your ability to go to a reputable graduate or PA program afterward? If anyone has any insight into any of these schools it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and sorry for such a long post.
