General Comments:
I was thinking I can get into John Hopkins, duke, vanderbilt, claremont McKenna, or washu.

1) this post is a bit premature. it’s hard to say much now.
2) you don’t have SAT/ACT scores
3) it’s hard to just assume your recommendations will be very good or that you’ll get internships or honestly to assume anything
4) it’s very early in your high school career. a lot will change between now and when you apply for college.

But when the time comes when you can say much, it’s already too late to change anything. That’s the primary issue with chance threads.

Your unweighted GPA is fine now, but don’t let it get any lower (unless you go to a challenging school where a “lower” GPA still results in a high class rank).

In general, college applications don’t ask how many volunteer hours you have. Community service can be part of your ECs, but it doesn’t have to be.

How many advanced (AP and similar) courses does your school offer and how many will you be taking?

Do you have any leadership?

Anyone can. These are “reach for everyone” schools. The most you can ever hope to be is competitive.

My junior year course load is AP calc bc, AP language and comp, AP US history, AP biology, AP physics 1, AP Spanish language.
My senior year course load is AP stats, Calc 3/Linear Algebra, AP physics C, AP English literature, AP Spanish literature and culture, AP chemistry, AP Macroeconomics/AP US government.
I am doing a freshman mentorship for leadership
I am also a give-a-Thon leader
I am also a leader for PE.
I am not on the executive board of any clubs yet because I’m only a sophomore. I will get executive board positions my junior or senior year.

Good to put together a plan for the next 4 years. I am also a freshman. I am researching on summer internships and research programs.

Your classes are very challenging, so the lower GPA MIGHT not be as bad. You also have some solid ECs, which will look great.

If all else fails, at least you still have the “Gun Show”, right?

A 3.8 unweighted GPA is fine as it is…colleges aren’t really going to bother with hairsplitting over whether it was a 3.8 or a 3.9 or a 4.0. It just shouldn’t get much lower. I sometimes hear 3.7+ and other times I hear 3.8+.

I got a 31 on a practice ACT and a 216 on my PSAT. Would that help?
