Which Community College should I attend for transferring to UC Davis?

Hey. I’m looking to go to CC for two years then transfer to Davis. Do I have to pick a school near Davis for the best chance to transfer? I also heard about the TAG Program. Could I get this TAG at any school? What are some good CCs that I should consider? I also don’t want to pay a lot of rent. Thanks

In SoCal, Santa Monica, Pasadena City College, and Mt. San Antonio are all highly respected and have good transfer rates.

Any California Community college will offer TAG for the 6 UC campuses. I would attend your local CC if money is an issue.

Your previous posts indicate that you are from Virginia.
You need to realize that you will pay out of state tuition for any California community college
and out-of-state costs for the UC’s.

Rents in California cities are very high, so expect to pay a good amount in rent.
There is no financial aid for nonresident students.
And, you will NOT receive in-state tuition because you’re coming to California for educational purposes. Trying to gain in-state residency is not going to happen. If you were to get into Davis you will be paying $60K a year for the remaining two years.

You could transfer to UCD from any California Community College (CCC). If UCD has a TAG program for your major, then you can get the TAG from any CCC.

But it might be particularly convenient to go with Sacramento City College. Most SCC transfers target UCD over other UC campuses, so the counselors there are experts on UCD specifically. Furthermore, SCC actually has a satellite facility that offers classes in Davis, on the edge of the UCD campus. So you could move to Davis, enroll at SCC, and start taking classes in Davis right away, even if you were not enrolled at UCD. Don’t know if you can take all your SCC classes in Davis, but if not, the main SCC campus is less than 20 miles away.

UCD, like other UCs, normally prioritizes CCC students in transfer admission. However, CCC students are typically California residents. I don’t know if they still give transfer priority to CCC students who are not state residents.

Then you are looking at the wrong state.

1.The University of California prioritizes transfer students from California Community college.

  1. Tag program is only for California CC.
  2. Santa Monica College and De Anza College is ranked high for UC transfer. I personally transfer from SMC and I liked almost all professors from SMC.
  3. California CC tuition is cheap compared to other state CC which you might consider. also there is Cal grants for students who transfer from Cal CC to UC. also attending CC here should enable you for in state tuition for UC ( CHECK CHECK CHECK )
  4. UC is Research University. It's best to attend for Grad school work. I do not know what your intended major is, but you can always come to UC after completing undergraduate somewhere else with semester system.

^^^Absolutely incorrect @MIN16QAKJ. This students high school transcript will show that he’s from Virginia. If his parents have not moved to California from Virginia he will never be considered for in-state tuition.

If the student moves and attends the California community college, he will pay full fees at the California community college; once he transfers, he will pay full fees at UC Davis. simple.

There’s something called the residency determination date. Non-resident students have to live, work and pay taxes in California for two years, prior to attending any Public school. He or she must be self-supporting, cannot accept help nor reduced rent from anyone. The student has to provide W2s, California 540 tax records, and budget forms, with expense account proof submitted to the schools he intends to matriculate to. Rules are posted under the UC‘s residency requirements.
The residency officers know the tricks; you come to California, you pay California out of state fees simple.
