Which Dining Plan?

Any opinions as to which dining plan is best for a Freshman?

This is last year’s topic. It’s different for everyone, depends where you are going to be at mealtimes, whether or not you even usually eat certain meals etc. The nice thing (if it hasn’t changed) is that you can sign up for one type and then have a couple weeks to change if you want to.

Thank you for the info. It’s hard to guess ahead of time which one to pick but I like that you can switch if needed.

You have until September 10th to change the dining plan if your DS decides it’s not the right plan, and it can be changed on line. So that would give him 2 weeks to try it out. It really depends on what dorm, how close is the dining hall and what kind of meals he likes. Also what times are his classes and would he rather have breakfast or sleep before his 8 o’clock class! Location of classes is important and how difficult to get back for lunch or just grab something at Trabant or Main Street.

My DS is a 3 square meals a day at regular hours kind of kid, so we went with the 19 meals a week and 75 points. It was easy for him since he is in Russell A and the dining hall is right there. His schedule both semesters worked out with the right gaps to allow him to come back for lunch.

Next year he’ll be dorming in the north central area near Main Street and Trabant. The closest dining hall is Kent, but he heard it will be closed next year. His tentative schedule for next year has his first class at 11am (not by choice but availability) and he still needs to figure out where to eat and may go with more points than meals.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I guess you can’t know everything ahead of time!!!
