Which scenario is more impressive to colleges?
1:kid who’s advanced in math - taking alg1 in 7th grade and following that track eventually taking Calc junior year
2:kid who sucked at math in middle school, took alg 1 freshman yr, geometry & alg 2 sophomore, precalc over the summer and took Calc junior year
My scenario is currently following 2 I’m taking alg 2 and geometry and hoping to take precalc over the summer
Colleges don’t look at middle school, so the beginning of each scenario is irrelevant. Also, these situations aren’t examined in a vacuum, neither will be impressive if your English grades suck and your essays aren’t good. Whichever scenario you fall into will be what you are, colleges don’t have a “formula” they want you to follow, just do what is best for you.
There is no advantage to taking precalc over the summer to get to calc junior year. Take precalc at school junior year and calc senior year.
Whichever has better grades. Otherwise you’ve taken the same courses in HS
I disagree that summer core courses to move ahead are of no value. It provides the opportunity to take MVC or another valuable course senior year.
