I've been wondering this: Which school is more prestigious - Oxy or Davis? In general? What do you think?

Prestige? I don’t think you can compare those schools along prestige.
Not only that but anyone who’s interested in a college just for the “prestige” isn’t really looking in the right areas. Just an opinion, but I think you should really look into what you really want which is probably just recognition from your peers for attending a college. Prestige is superficial, anyway.

Depends how you want to define prestige – academic reputation among people in higher education or how well the general population knows a school? Both are difficult to measure unless you are talking about universities that everyone knows as great places. Oxy and Davis present an interesting comparison. Oxy is respected in education circles and it has the reputation of being an excellent liberal arts college. But the general population won’t be familiar with it, especially outside of California. UC Davis is respected as a research university (as are all the UCs), but it’s not as well known as some of the other UCs.

Oxy offers a great education in a setting that works for people interested in studying at a liberal arts college with access to a major city. One of the things I liked about Oxy was that it was a special place for those of us “in the know.” It was an alternative to big universities.

you’re an idiot. (not you guys ^)

Occidental is more prestigious
