Due to scheduling conflicts next year, I can either join Model UN or the Young Democrats club (“YD meet weekly to discuss political and international issues. The club’s activities include hosting guest speakers, assisting local and national campaigns, and engaging with the community in a healthy political discussion.”), but not both. I’m interested equally in the two because I know that I want to major in either polisci/international relations/history in college. Which club is more impressive to colleges? I’m already interning at a Congressional district this summer; I’m thinking since Model UN deals with foreign issues, it would offer more diversity to my application. What do you guys think?
Both are pretty impressive, but since you’re already interning somewhere, I’d suggest MUN (totally not biased here). MUN, for one, has competitions (although it is very difficult to do well at them). It’s absurdly fun and it definitely teaches you a LOT about politics (such as: if you’re the United States, try not to write a resolution with Iran, even if the other people are your allies). It’s really, really, really fun as well.
However, MUN is often considered a stock EC, and your other club seems more unique.
My teacher said that colleges like to see MUN as an extracurricular however I suggest you do MUN because its really fun and there’s a variety of topics to talk about like Boko Haram, the Ukraine Crisis, Admission of Turkey, Historic Security Council and many more. Its really up to you though I’ve never heard about the YD Club.
