which laptop do i buy?

ok i am looking at an Apple Laptop with new Intel chip or an HP Media Center Laptop but i am going to wait until the new Windows Vista comes out.

since i was in the womb i have used HP... do i want to make the switch?

What are some of the benefits of an Apple? and vice versa?

Which one is better than the other?
Which one has more features than the other?

can someone help me out cuz i really don't know what to get.
Compare/Contrast maybe?

well i think you have a lot of time to decide because if i were you i would wait until the summer when all of the companies have super deals for back to college...

Get an ThinkPad T42 or T43 instead.

PROS
Apple: high quality/lasts forever, fewer viruses, fast, can handle virtually everything, aesthetic appeal, lightweight, size, really bright screen-nice widescreen, great sound, heat control (believe me, that's a factor-well for me at least-it really bothers you when your computer is really hot to the touch.), minimal noise
HP: Affordability, bright screen, compatibility, decent quality/lasts pretty long, I don't know what else.

CONS
Apple: PRICE, compatibility, peripherals (ext. keyboard, mouse etc) must be Apple brand
HP: noise, It's windows, etc.

Apple is better beyond comparison

plus come to find out if you go to an apple store and show them your college acceptance letter you get an extra 200 dollars off...

anyone else?

I got an Apple and personally, I hate it. It's really slow and crashes a lot. I had to take it in less than a week after I got it, because the logic board failed (600+ dollars for the repair), luckily it was still under warranty. It was really disappointing me to save up all my money for an iBook G4 and then have it be slow and incompatible with some stuff.

I just got a desktop HP Media Center pc and I love it. Everything's ridiculously fast, it came with a bunch of preloaded software, and it almost never freezes or crashes. It was cheaper than my iBook too!

I'd get the HP if I were you. I don't have experience with the new iBooks but I wouldn't expect that much of an improvement. I think the HP ones are widescreen which would also be a nice bonus. Maybe check out the prices and compare reviews online? Also, if there's an Apple Store near you, you can go and preview the computers...check them out, try some applications, etc.

i have an apple g4. i love it a lot...

Are you sure you didn't get a lemon? I have a two-year-old Acer that like stopped working. My suspicion is that it was a lemon, but I bought it thru my school so I was always able to go in and get it fixed.

Here's one thing I'll guarentee though: You should NEVER, EVER, under any circumstances, buy an Acer. They work like crap, sound like crap and are very likely candidates for lemons. It's also overpriced.

Yeah, it might be a lemon. My dad has a really sweet loaded 17" powerbook that works well. I really hate mine though. I'm thinking of just selling it on Craig's list or something and getting an HP when I'm ready for college. Or, I might just keep it and use my desktop most of the time...

I think you should sell it as soon as possible. If not, it'll lose value, and you won't get a lot of money off of it.

if ur comp already has vista, its easy to install macOS 10.x, so dont buy apple

HP and compaq has the worst quality

thinkpad has a steep learning curve

any other brand is good...lol... seriously true tho

Have the new iBooks been released yet? If they haven't, I should probably try to sell before they do...

the new Apple laptop is MacBook Pro. seems pretty cool

so what windows laptop brand you guys think is the best?

forget those laptops! Nothing screams class like a Voodoo!
www.voodoopc.com

ThinkPads In my opinion are the ONLY good laptops.

I would stay away from apple just because of software compatibility issues. Unless your an apple person, then go for it.

Listen, I'm really into computers and follow this stuff religiously. If you want an apple go right ahead, JUST MAKE SURE you don't get the new ones. The new apples will be the first ones with the Intel chips so there gonna be problems, wait for a second or third release of them. By then the will have gotten rid of all the bugs.

OK, I say go for HP - I've had HPs since I was little too and I adore them. We have an HP that is like, 12 years old and just started acting up, so...I dunno, maybe we've just taken really good care of it (which I don't think we have...we don't abuse it, but it's been through a lot). I say HP - my friend works at an Mac Depot and said the new laptops are terrible - the college she's going to uses windows so she has a hp media center and thinks its easy to use and is perfect for what she wants (she's doing graphic design though, so...).

Apple makes very nice notebooks...

Just be careful though... Apple notebook + Intel Centrino Platform = Crap

btw, what do u need the lappy for?

Are you using it as a multimedia thingy? (HP Media Center)

If so, 17" TFT LCD screen, or 15" minimum (17" won't get as much battery power though, but if you really want movies/games, you want 17")

I don't think you're going to need one of the newer intel cpus... the centrino duo platform is some pretty powerful stuff. The older pentium M's will still offer high performance at a lower price.

The exception to this would be if you were running virus software, listening to music, downloading/installing something, and working on Microsoft Word/Excel/etc. all at the same time. Core Duos (Centrino Duo) is much much better at multitasking, especially since the pentium Ms dont have hyperthreading technology.

If you also really want Windows Vista, wait for Merom to come out (codename for Intel's new dual-core 64-bit processor), it should be out somewhere this September.

Another option would be AMD's dualcore Turion64 (or single core), which will be available sooner than Merom. Turion64 is already available, and can run the 64-bit Vista OS. Although the processor itself is more energy efficient than pentium M, the entire platform (chipset, wireless, etc.) is not as efficient as the centrino, so Turion laptops generally have a little less battery life.

If I were you, I'd still stick with Intel for laptop processors though...

As much as Intel sucks when compared to AMD in terms of raw processor technology [in desktops], Intel pwns AMD in mobile technology.
