Which Looks Better?

My freshman year is coming to a close, and as I register for classes next semester, I’m debating which of the following scenarios would look best for a transfer student. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take more classes - I took 13 hours last semester, and I’m thinking about bumping it up to 16, 2 of which are required honors courses.

Part-time job - try to fit in 10 hours or so per week as a library assistant or computer-tech assistant.

Become more envolved in ECs - I have a few ECs right now, to which I would like to devote more time. There’s an undergraduate scholarly journal which I’m thinking of applying for, however, the position is fairly time-consuming. I want to make sure the effort I put in won’t go unnoticed by schools.

I’ve heard that adcoms don’t really prefer, or perhaps give as much weight to jobs as they do to meaningful ECs. Can anyone offer any insight? Not looking at any schools specifically yet.

Thanks

I suggest you take all three steps if possible.
16 hours is the expected credit load at colleges, and job & ECs will definitely help.

What kind of colleges are you thinking of transferring into? And with your ECs, join groups that truly interest you. I do realize that college admissions is a game, but honestly don't do something just because it will impress an adcom. I don't have a lot of ECs, but the groups I am in I am truly passionate about :P

You take all. In the past year, I've held two internships (equivilent to a full time job) with a full load that include honors classes. Adcoms will say, "Hey, he can study AND do work at the same time without a decrease in performance!"
