Which major, good money, and which school?

Hey, well I'm very interested in getting into an Art major in college, however I would also like a major that leads to a job that gets a salary of anything above $100,000. Does anyone have any such suggestions?

atm I've been thinking about majoring in graphics design, architecture, animation, and illustration.

p.s. Does anyone know the average statistics/scores of people who get accepted into the RISD/Brown program?

a job in art thats over 100k in salary? uh... well there are art related jobs that give that kind of money of course, but, i think in general your looking at the wrong field.

average salary of graphic designers: ~ 40 - 50k

average salary of architects: ~ 65k (i was contemplating architecture for years. it is notorious for having a ridiculous amount of work, but not enough pay to show for it)

average salary of landscape architects: ~ 55k

av. salary of industrial designers: ~ 55k

fine art/illustration major: well, i dont know, but im assuming a lot less than the above jobs

i dont remember how much an average animator made, (i really love animation btw), but i dont remember it being that high.

Animators can get paid quite high, but your salary increases with seniority. So as novice you'll be making maybe 40-60k (depending), but if you become a animation director/producer, senior character developer, or even a lead writer - the salary for all of those positions exceed 100k.

Don't know scores or stats, but you can find each school's numbers online on various websites -- including the Princeton Review site, which lists average (or median?) SAT scores, GPA, etc.

What I've read is that the Brown/Risd joint degree program enrolled only 18 students this year, which is the first year of the program.

regarding the RISD/Brown program, is it as difficult to get in as if a normal applicant was applying for Brown? do you need the academic prudentials of a Brown student to be able to get into the RISD/Brown program?

You apply separately, meaning you must be able to get into Brown and RISD independtly of each other and then you have a separate application for the dual degree....I think

Yes, it is as difficult to get in to Brown, as it would be for a 'normal' applicant. In fact, your application will be treated like everyone elses, so the standards are the same. That's why so few kids are accepted. I know of a current RISD student who had near perfect SATs and a stellar high school record. He could not get into Brown.

Over 100K? ...um, it's not impossible, but you definitely will have to wait some time. Maybe if you started your own business that relates to some form of art/design.

Advertising design/graphic design and architecture will get you to your goal quicker than illustration. I'm not sure about animation.

My dad is an architect, but still young. I believe he's been working for 10 years?
It does pay well when you have your own firm but ofcourse this is after years and year of building, networking, days without sleep and stress about a mountain high.

Its extremely hard to find any job paying over 100k with out a ton of work.
