Which Major???

So I dont really know what to do. I am going between two plans. I really want to be an engineer in a upstream oil operation. Option one is me going to some college in Texas for a degree in Petroleum Engineering (probably UTPB because its really cheap for out of state). My second option is going to a state school in NY where I would qualify for free tuition. It would probably be Fredonia and I would take part in their cooperative engineering program. Which would mean three years at Fredonia and getting probably a degree in geology then the last two would be at an affiliate university. If your GPA is high enough at Fredonia you are then guaranteed admission into a partner school, I would aim for above a 3.3 because then I would have guaranteed admission into Columbia for the last two years. The end result of this would be me having a BA in Geology from Frendonia and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia. I like the Petroleum Engineering option because it is quicker and would lead to more internships because I would be right in Texas. I like the second option because I leave with two degrees and I have a much wider range of opportunities because I have more general majors just in case the oil industry tanks. I would end up paying the same amount for both degrees because you would still be paying for tuution and Columbia and two years their is equivalent to four at UTPB but the second option would end up taking longer. I dont know what to do and they both seem like they are good options, any thoughts?
