I am going to be a college freshman in the fall and am attempting to make myself a reasonable schedule. I am currently scheduled to take Intro to Music History, Intro Anthropology, a 100 level American History course, and a required freshman writing course. I plan on adding a fifth course during add/drop and was considering taking a course in psychology, sociology, business, or political science, depending on what is available during the add/drop period. I was wondering which of these subjects generally tends to have the least amount of writing involved? I am adept at essay writing, but I have been warned that with the history, anthropology, and freshman writing courses I will have a lot of writing to do and that the fifth class I select should be less writing intensive. I know it may be hard to generalize without knowing the exact class titles, but I am looking for what tends to be average with each of these subjects. Thanks!

Business, probably.

Humanities classes are generally (but not always) writing intensive. If you’re looking for something less so, then business is probably the way to go.

Thanks for your input. If a business class isn’t possible, which of the humanities/social science subjects which I mentioned do you think would have the least amount of writing involved?

Humanities and social sciences classed do require a good amount of writing and reading, as well.

I took a sociology course with a crappy professor and it required a fair amount of reading. My introductory anth class did too, but it was a fascinating course.

I’d say with the exception of the business class, all of them will require you to do a sizable amount of writing

If you don’t mind my asking, why are you looking at only those subjects? Are you able to take a math class instead? Or a hard science course that’s not for science majors (and without a lab)?

It really is all based on your school.

At my uni, the intro psych class involves 0 writing. However, when my mom was a prof. at another school, she had her students write several (5-10 page) papers throughout the semester.

The business class is probably the least writing intensive- I agree with everyone else’s posts. Yeah, maybe go with ^^ and look into a math or science class, because that’s not going to have essays.

Basically I’m trying to avoid science and math (e.g. calculus) classes because I’m a lot better at anything verbal than quanitative, even if humanities and social science courses can involve having to write time consuming essays.
