I got accepted to both Boston College and Boston University as Economics major as a transfer student.
Since I am an international student, I do not get any financial aid. (Money is not my concern)
I want to seek some advice. I equally like both schools.
Boston College has a better reputation domestically, especially regionally). BU definitely has a more international flare with way more international kids and known programs over seas. For many yrs BU has been known as a strong graduate school. It only recently has become quite competitive at the undergrad level. BC has more of a primary focus on UG education.
Also, they are COMPLETELY different feel wise. One is suburban, secluded campus, traditional quads, campus focused with access tot he city. The other is in the city. The city is really the BU campus. Very Very different.
After you graduate, and go home, will employers in your country care where you studied? Remember, you will have to leave after graduating and completing any OPT. Don’t expect to be able to get a permanent job here.
For Econ I would choose BC. As an international student you may find BU to be a better fit. They have a real international presence i their student body and so many top grad schools. City integration which is more diverse as well. BC is a really traditonal type of small/mid size American university experience. BU is the more like the NYU experience.
A few things to consider:
-
Consider both school’s reputation in your home country. In the US I’d give the edge to BC.
-
BC is a Jesuit school. As such you will see religious symbols in campus and you should be comfortable with that.
-
Most Jesuit colleges have a large and fairly inflexible core curriculum which usually includes coursework in theology and philosophy. Take a look through the BC core (I imagine it is online) to see if you would be fine taking the required classes and if you can finish the core as well as the classes in your major and graduate on time.
-
BU is urban with no distinct campus while BC is a suburban school with a traditional campus. Do you have a preference?
-
If you are at all interested in sports/school spirit etc. BC would have the advantage.
I really appreciate for all your responses.
Thank You So Much!!
