Which professional sports league is most popular?

Hey gang,

I was just curious at how the sports discussion atmosphere is in college. I am a huge follower of NBA and MLB, but not so much for the NFL and NHL. I was wondering which of the 4 major sports league typically gets discussed the most, etc.? Or are they evenly split throughout the years since not all of them play at the same time?

id say mostly nba and nfl

Oops I forgot to mention that I’m looking at schools in the northeast … which makes hockey a little more appealing.

Thanks for the thought scotch.

I would still say NFL and NBA. As much as I love the NHL, nobody cares. :P

Twisted, you live in Hockeytown. That’s blasphemy.

And you lived in a town with one of the best OHL teams. You make me sad :p

NHL is big in the Northeast, but especially in Michigan and towns that border Canada.

NFL and MLB way above the others, NBA used to be close but not its horrible.

I don’t think you should choose a school based on what sport is discussed the most in the dining hall, which is the impression I’m getting from your post.

NBA and NHL for me

MLB and NHL for me.

Btw, fortify – go sharks!! (I don’t know if you are a sharks fan but I assumed since you’re in Berkeley) ;)

When in season, it’s clearly the NFL and college football. Otherwise, I guess its basketball, although I feel like people care less about the regular season if their team plays every day or two.

I adore hockey. I used to be able to tell the red wings apart just by looking at their skates, I was that obsessed. But given that I AM from hockeytown, I have lived a life of not understanding why the rest of the country doesn’t seem to know what they are missing out on. :stuck_out_tongue: Hockey just isn’t relevant to most people for some reason. For me, basketball moves too quickly to be interesting, and football too slow. Hockey is exactly right.

Detroit is NOT hockeytown!!! St. Paul, MN has a much better case to be hockeytown than anyplace in michigan does and if you want the facts why I will be happy to share. But MLB and NHL for me, NFL is good too. NBA not so much.

I found NFL to be the biggest pro-sports league that people followed. College basketball seemed to be more popular than pro, though that might have been because I was in Pittsburgh where there was no pro team.

Across the board, NFL.

NFL, then NBA then MLB then MLS

NFL first, followed by MLB / NHL.

NFL for sure. But I think interest in MLB/NHL/NBA varies depending on which region you are from. Obviously most northern states love hockey (Detroit, Pittsburgh, New Jersey). MLB is more popular in places like Chicago, St. Louis, New York and Boston while the NBA is more popular in Cleveland, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City etc.

We had Gordie Howe. Case closed.

[Before you throw a fit, it’s a joke so lighten up if you’re going to bark at me. Seriously, it’s a nickname- not a big deal.]

"Detroit is NOT hockeytown!!! "

I LAUGH AT YOU BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.

:)

Don’t worry everyone I’m not picking schools based on which sports league is most popular, I was just curious on this situation. :)

Too bad that my favorite league, the NBA, doesn’t seem to get as much support as the NFL.
