Which route is more favorable?

I recieved my schedule today and was wondering if I should ask my counselor to switch me out of Period 1 Teacher's Aid to another elective. The main reason I'm asking is because that this teacher aid class is a PASS/FAIL course so it wont count on my GPA. My weighted GPA is over 4.0 and it will have no effect on it. I have heard that colleges do not like students taking TA classes though. On the other hand if i get an A with an elective it will drop and also lower my class rank. What do you guys think?

I’m guessing a your “TA” period is like a study hall, just a class to let kids do homework, etc? I would just stick with the TA period if you can’t get another class, AP, honors, etc, with real substance. No reason to lower your weighted GPA with a “standard” elective.

What if I take an art class to satisfy my visual and performing arts credit? I was thinking about taking it senior year because it will not count in my GPA for class rankings and such

Well then I would do that then, especially if you need it for graduation, as along as you’re not taking it instead of an AP/Honors class. This schedule is for your junior year, correct?

Losing a bit of class rank is not the end of the world. Adcoms would rather you challenged and applied yourself than slacked off to maintain an arbitrarily high class rank and GPA.

Valedictorians get rejected all the time.

When you care so much about your class rank that you’ll select your classes based less on what interests you and what will fulfill your requirements than on what will maintain your class rank, it’s time for a reality check.

Take the real class.

Yeah this is for my junior year and that was what I was thinking too but I’ve been listening to some other people and I’ve been hearing different things. I guess I’ll replace my TA with maybe Art and Painting or maybe any other available first period course I can take thanks!

So I just talked to my counselor today and found out I had already satisfied my art credit with another class that will be turning into a fine arts by the time I graduated. She highly reccommended i stick with the TA because of the lack of clases available (the only ones left were like wood tech and physiology). I decided to stick with it and build a good relation with a teacher I had for letter of recs too. I am a bit worried though, will this TA course for junior year ruin my chances for a good college? My other courses are:

Span 5/6
AP Calc AB
AP English
Us History
AP Chem

Thanks in advance!
