Has anyone on CC had experience with these programs? Which one would you recommend? If I did Veritas I would have to do the own-pace-course.
Hi @akova1
I’m a cofounder of PrepScholar, and I wrote a bit about our program here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18014359#Comment_18014359
Like many people on CC say, you don’t need a class to excel on the SAT or ACT. The principles of effective study are the same - figure out your strengths and weaknesses, hone in on your weaknesses, keep drilling them until you improve, and keep a laser sharp focus on understanding every mistake you make. Lots of students, including us the founders, have used these techniques to earn high or perfect scores on the SAT/ACT, and it’s more effective than a brute force approach where you read books cover to cover, or most classes that just throw a lot of material at you.
However, how exactly to execute the techniques above is confusing to many students, since it requires a lot of self-insight and motivation. At PrepScholar we aim to solve this problem through technology and data - we customize your prep program to your strengths and weaknesses, giving you a step by step program on what to work on next.
This is our key difference from other prep programs. We find that a lot of students studying alone are confused about what they should be spending time on to maximize their score. We created PrepScholar to be a fully guided program that integrates skill practice, strategies, and practice tests so you can focus on learning, not on the meta-level of deciding what you should be working on. Your program is specifically crafted to you so that you make the largest score improvements. In this way, we believe we’re better than a one-size-fits-all class or reading books cover to cover.
We’ve also built in a bunch of other useful features that motivate you to study more and track your progress over time. We continue to analyze our thousands of students to continuously refine our program, which means it gets even more effective over time.
I’d recommend you search CC for “prepscholar” to see what experiences other CC members have had with it. I’d also invite any readers to share their experience with us here.
