does it matter if I get my computer science degree from norfolk state university or James madison university or is it just how much I apply myself?

It doesn’t much matter where you get your degree from as long as the CS programs meet minimum standards. Looking at the CS courses required for a degree from both universities, I’d say either is fine. You do want to be in a school where the other CS students take their courses seriously, though.

How far you go does depend on how you apply yourself. You learn the basics in school. The specific skills that really make you employable are learned after you graduate, either on the job or on your own time.

If you have a choice I’d say go with James Madison over Norfolk State. JMU has a good reputation locally.

What’s the cost difference on the two schools? And which one feels like a better fit? I think those are big factors worth considering as well.
